Before I even started this blog, I would occasionally pose a SyFy Question of the Day to my facebook friends. Sometimes, it was directly related to what I was writing, and I really did want some input to help me decide what direction to take with the story. Other times, it was purely fun. Here’s one of my favorites, from April 2011:

SyFy question of the night: What other euphemisms might evolve for the term “booty call” in a future society?
Mike Jacked: Net runner term
AB Other sci-fi writers I’ve talked to DO like it when we use each other’s terminology! “Frak” is the most hard-core curse I use in my stories. Another friend uses the word “Linguish” for humanity’s mainstream language.
Mike I Grok
Nessie OK, I Grok that you Grok, but let’s not let people think that “Grok” is a euphemism for booty call!!!
Angela Didn’t you get the memo? Booty calls are obsolete. Some time in the last decade, they were replaced with booty texts.
Angela Josh says you should base your euphemism on the most valuable resource of your chosen planet. (booty=treasure) From my own warped little mind, I would recommend “drive by,” “happy hour,” “friendly visit,” or in a future society perhaps “date.” 😀
Ian ”Pleasure Ping”… Working on computers too much I think…
Nessie rotflol @ all of you! I’ll make notes.
I would love to hear what you think! Even if you are reading this post a year or more after publishing, I hope you will leave a comment with your own ideas on this topic.
